Centre for Community Enterprise

What we could do

Introduce the idea of a community enterprise.

Why

Calling ourselves a community enterprise gives everyone who is part of our community of common interest and common enterprise the opportunity to connect and contribute to the common interests which define our community and to creating community around our common enterprise. Who is in our community? Who is contributing to our community enterprise and the interests we have in common? Who are we interested in creating connections for and with?

We call ourselves a community enterprise where everyone sets out to create the enterprise, and to learn how to be a creative enterprise to become economically independent and sustainable and increase the size and contribution of our community of common enterprise to our common human interests.

Creating community around common enterprise

Exploring ideas, behaviour, and enterprise that contribute to our common human interests, individually and as communities, and to our ability to create common enterprise around our common interests.

Community enterprise is created by community behaviour in pursuit of the common interests of the community.

Community behaviour is behaviour that is respectful, appreciative, considerate, open, honest, fair, and contributive.

Moving from ideas and language which contribute to creating us and them to ideas and language which contribute to creating we.

Exploring and observing how changing the way we see and do things contributes to creating community behaviour, to creating more successful common enterprise, and to increasing our contribution to our common interests.

Increasing our understanding of community, of how we behave in community, and of what contributes to and militates against our ability to create communities of common enterprise.

What is community?

A community is defined by a common interest.
A community could be a community of place, of purpose, of practice, or of culture.
Community is created by common enterprise.

What is a community enterprise?

A community enterprise is a community of common enterprise.

A community enterprise could be a privately owned enterprise, a publicly owned corporate enterprise, a publicly owned government enterprise, a community owned enterprise, or an enterprise owned in common by the community of contributors to a common enterprise.

Owned in common is owned in trust by the community of contributors interested in increasing the size of our community and the contribution of our common enterprise to our common human interests.

Our common resources are our community resources, our natural resources, our relationships, and our contributions. Our interest is to increase the resources, the connections and relationships, and our contribution to the interests and enterprise of everyone in our community, and to our common interests and enterprise as a community.

Community enterprise is created by community behaviour. Successful community enterprise comes from imagining possibilities, exciting creative contribution and creating connections.

A community enterprise may or may not contribute to our common human interests

Why do we want to create community?

Creating possibilities comes from creative enterprise.
Creating possibilities for our communities comes from creative community enterprise.

What is Community?

When people have a connection to other people
When people feel connected by a common interest or a common enterprise
When we feel we have something in common
When we feel connected by a common experience, or interest, or idea, or enterprise

A community might be defined by the interests, or experiences, or ideas we have in common but we only create community by common enterprise

We might feel we are part of a community or belong to a community but we only create and grow as a community around the pursuit of a common experience, – by a common enterprise

Why do we want to create a community of common enterprise, – or a common enterprise?

To increase our contribution to our common interests as a community, and to learn how to increase our contribution, and increase the contribution of everyone in our community, – our community contributors and the people who have an interest in contributing and whose interests are served by contributing.

How do we increase the size and contribution of our community of common enterprise?

By creating opportunities to learn, to contribute, and to create relationships around our interests and enterprise

How do we make it possible for people to contribute and increase their contribution?

Increase opportunities to contribute
Exploring what we could do or do better or make it possible for others to do better
By increasing our ability to be successful
By demonstrating how we could do things and how things could work
To make it possible to learn who is contributing, why they are contributing, and what they are contributing, and what they are interested in contributing
By creating connections, relationships, and creative enterprise around opportunities
By working with our human nature

Our community culture

Interests, ideas, and behaviour we have in common, – what we say and do and how we say and do things, – create our culture, as a community, as an enterprise, and as a community enterprise. Our culture is our “brand” – how we are known. We are known by what we say and do and how we say and do things and by what we contribute. We come to know one another by our stories. We create connections with our stories.

We all have a culture, as individuals, as enterprises, as communities. We create our culture as a community, consciously or unconsciously. We can create our culture as a choice. What kind of culture would we like to create as a community?

Two qualities that set humanity apart from other animals, and which contribute to our evolution as individuals, as communities, and as people, are invention and imitation.

What are the stories that contribute to creating our culture? What are our stories? What stories will we imitate?

What are your stories? Who is part of the community of common enterprise we are contributing to creating, – if that is what we are doing?

We are creating our stories together. I am creating my stories. I am creating possibilities by telling my stories. I am contributing to how others are creating their stories. I am contributing to how we create our stories together. It is just a question of whar stories we are creating.

Stephen Jobs said we can look behind us and see how the dots connected to bring us to where we are now but we can’t connect the dots out in front of us. I think what he meant to say was that we can’t see how the dots are going to connect and what they could create but we can connect the dots we see.

Our reason for communicating is to create connections, contribute ideas, and excite imagination and interest

Creating a Community Enterprise

If we are creating a community enterprise, who is in our community?
Who could be in our community of common interest and enterprise?
Who could benefit from contributing to our common enterprise?
Create any opportunity to work as a community
Invite ideas and opportunities to work as a community
